Mountain View, CA, USA
Posted on Saturday, September 16, 2023
Kodiak was founded in April 2018 to develop autonomous technology that carries freight forward—so people, partners, and the planet thrive. Navigating highway environments presents vastly different challenges than urban streets. Kodiak’s experienced team has developed the industry’s most advanced technology stack purpose-built specifically for long-haul trucks. From our sensor fusion system that maximizes the value of every sensing modality, to our unique lightweight mapping solution that allows our trucks to navigate ever-changing highway construction zones, our world-class team of industry pioneers is bringing the benefits of autonomy to the $800B a year trucking industry quickly, safely, and efficiently.
We are looking for a Systems Engineer to join us and develop autonomous hardware.

In this role, you will:

  • Be responsible for system verification and validation of part of our software, sensing hardware, redundant AV computing, or redundant actuation systems
  • Develop test plans and methods for system and sub-system evaluation.
  • Work closely with other system engineers, software and hardware teams to refine and increase coverage of test plans.
  • Conduct Hardware in the Loop (HIL) testing and generate evaluation reports. Support Closed Course testing and evaluation of the Kodiak driver.
  • Develop testing infrastructure for scaling HIL testing. Develop and deploy scripts and tools for automated evaluation and reporting
  • Provide design feedback based on test results, and refine requirements based on analysis
  • Contribute to system safety and reliability improvements.
  • Perform Engineering project management activities related to the assigned project

Qualifications:

  • Strong technical background. You are currently pursuing an MS or Ph.D. and have hands-on experience with design and architecture of robotic or automotive systems, you know how to analyze systems using structured approaches (such as DFMEA and FTA), and have developed and executed test plans for smaller systems
  • You take ownership and drive the team to deliver exceptional results
  • Proven ability to build and iterate quickly. Comfortable in ambiguous environments and for moving from zero to one.
  • Hands on. You are just as comfortable getting your hands dirty analyzing a subsystem in the shop as when using a keyboard
  • Can script or code - Python or C or C++ or other language
