A job at Apple is unlike any you’ve ever had. You will be inspired and you will be challenged. Bring passion and dedication to your job, and there is no telling what you could accomplish!

Our global team collaborates across product lines to bring Apple products to life. We empower Hardware Engineering’s R&D labs with world-class prototyping, characterization, and metrology equipment. We are seeking an experienced leader with outstanding attention to detail and a demonstrated ability to build strong, collaborative cross functional teams to oversee and elevate our lab operations in China.

Description

The Test Engineer role leads packaging testing validation and operational excellence within multiple engineering labs across China. This includes partnership with cross-functional engineering teams—providing technical leadership to technician resources while maintaining safe, organized, and operationally efficient lab spaces. In addition to managing day-to-day lab operations, the Test Engineer aligns resource planning and standardized processes across locations to foster a consistent, complementary lab culture.

Responsibilities

  • Test Leadership: Lead and support mechanical test execution, including new packaging investigations and validations of design performance across all development stages.
  • Resource Management: Partner with cross-functional engineering teams to effectively staff, train, and onboard technician resources to ensure high-quality test results.
  • Data Reporting: Act as a liaison between technicians and engineering to flag anomalies, improve data reporting, and solicit feedback to increase data confidence.
  • Engagement: Define, document, and enforce lab policies and guidelines. Drive timely, clear communication of lab-related updates and requirements to all users.
  • Safety: Work with the Environmental Health and Safety team to ensure compliance and adherence to national, local, and Apple protocols.
  • Facility: Maintain and control access to lab spaces; own lab scheduling, space allocation, security compliance, vendor escort, facilities activities, and general operations.
  • Project Management: Lead cross-functional lab initiatives from planning through execution, including scope definition, timeline development, stakeholder alignment, risk identification, and status reporting. Coordinate equipment installations, lab build-outs, capability expansions, and process-improvement projects across multiple locations.
  • Maintenance: Develop preventative maintenance and repair strategies to ensure calibration, verification, and reporting, which minimizes equipment downtime.
  • Inventory Management: Leads procurement, inventory, and disposition of all laboratory equipment, tools, and consumable parts.

Minimum Qualifications

  • College degree or equivalent technical/vocational training preferred, with 5+ years of relevant experience in lab operations, engineering support, or related technical environments.
  • Proven success driving teams, initiatives, or projects in technical environments.
  • Experience with industrial facilities and basic equipment troubleshooting techniques.
  • Experience in electrical, reliability, or mechanical testing in a lab environment.
  • Introductory knowledge of packaging materials, manufacturing processes, and evaluation testing standards such as ASTM, TAPPI, and ISTA.
  • English proficiency with strong written and interpersonal communication skills.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Project or program management experience.
  • Experience directly leading/managing direct reports, temporary staff.
  • Experience with mechanical test equipment, sensors, and metrology (microscopes, thermocouples, small industrial robots/actuators, etc.).
  • Strong written and interpersonal communication skills
  • Proven ability to work cross-functionally, relate to technical partners, and balance the needs of multiple stakeholders concurrently.
