Description
As an Advanced Manufacturing Engineer at Apple, you will design, develop, and scale high precision assembly and measurement manufacturing systems that directly shape the quality and reliability of Apple products.

You'll lead the research and development of novel automation technologies, own complex engineering challenges from concept through high-volume production, and collaborate with cross-functional teams and global manufacturing partners to continuously raise the bar.

Responsibilities
  • Own all aspects of manufacturing equipment and fixtures (E&F), including design, development, ongoing maintenance, and post-ramp process improvements
  • Design automated and semi-automated solutions for precision alignment, assembly, and measurement applications from early concept through high-volume production ramp
  • Lead machine qualification activities including correlation studies, process capability (Cp/Cpk), and Gage Repeatability & Reproducibility (GR&R); apply statistical tools such as DOE, SPC, and Six Sigma to ensure processes remain scalable and in control
  • Run structured experiments to characterize machine capability and drive measurable improvements in UPH, yield, and downtime
  • Drive failure analysis on yield detractors and reliability issues from both equipment and process perspectives; develop clear data analysis reports to communicate findings to multi-functional stakeholders
  • Author detailed RFQ/RFPs defining equipment design requirements, delivery schedules, documentation standards, and acceptance criteria; lead design reviews with machine suppliers throughout equipment development and bring-up
  • Serve as the primary technical driver on owned projects; provide direction and mentorship to third-party automation suppliers and contract manufacturers
  • Organize cross-functional reviews spanning machine requirements, design, qualification, and long-term capability
  • Engage early and continuously with product development teams to ensure new designs are mechanically manufacturable at scale, supporting the full product lifecycle from concept through end-of-life
  • Travel to supplier facilities and CM factories to support equipment bring-up, acceptance testing, and production build events

Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor's or higher degree in Mechanical Engineering or relevant engineering fields
  • Minimum 3 years experience in automation equipment design, machine qualifications (DFM review), and advanced manufacturing process
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills in English, with the ability to work effectively in a global environment and operate independently under pressure

Preferred Qualifications
  • Knowledge of pneumatics, servo motors, robotics (4/6-axis), glue/adhesive dispensing, AOI/CCD (vision/laser), pick-and-place, PLCs, and PC-based control systems is a plus
  • Proven experience with DOE, failure analysis, and statistical process control; ability to read and interpret engineering drawings including GD&T
  • Experience with JMP and Six Sigma methodologies; Python scripting for data analysis and automation is a plus
  • Familiarity with machine learning concepts and an understanding of how ML/AI can be leveraged for smart manufacturing applications
  • Proficiency in tolerance analysis for parts and assemblies
  • NX CAD experience is a plus
  • Vietnamese and Mandarin language skills are highly preferred
