Who We Are
Our mission is to make payments safer and easier for everyone. We started with a consumer product that helps people spend more safely using virtual payment cards. Then we launched a simple, modern API to make our payment and card issuing infrastructure available to other startups, fintechs, and brands. Today, that infrastructure powers hundreds of millions of dollars in payments for consumers and some of the most innovative companies in the world.
What You’ll Do
As the first dedicated Credit Risk hire, you will work closely with the rest of our Risk team and our Business Operations team to shape our strategy, systems, and processes for managing credit risk. You will:
- Own our existing processes for underwriting new customers for credit risk and work to improve them
- Devise new systems and strategies for managing credit risk, enabling scale, and improving user experience from the onboarding process through the rest of a user's lifecycle
- Build relationships with our customer-facing teams and our customers themselves to best inform our approach to managing risk in a way that enables prudent growth
- Identify new approaches and data sources that could help us better understand credit risk, and work with our engineering team to implement them
Who You Are
We’re looking for someone with a track record of both doing the work and shaping the strategy of credit risk management within a fast-paced, high-growth environment. We encourage candidates of all backgrounds and experiences to apply, but we think that a successful candidate will have:
- 3 - 5 years of work experience in credit risk management and/or credit underwriting at a financial institution, tech company, or financial services consultancy
- A deep understanding of finance and accounting fundamentals and experience interpreting financial statements
- Sharp analytical skills and attention to detail, with experience solving problems in Excel and working with data (SQL skills a big plus)
- Empathy toward the needs of others: you have a track record of building relationships cross-functionally and interfacing with external customers
- Self-awareness and humility: you're able to balance when to think from first principles, when to lean on your experience when approaching a problem, and when to turn to others for help
- An interest in helping build out a nascent risk function
- Comfort with ambiguity and working in an unstructured environment
- A proactive and positive attitude with a can-do mentality — no task is too small, and only a few tasks are truly impossible
- The ability to prioritize tasks and take ownership with minimal guidance
- A relentless desire to improve processes and make things more efficient
