Who We Are
Our mission is to make payments safer and easier for everyone. We started with a consumer product that helps people spend more safely using virtual payment cards. Then, we launched a simple, modern API to make our payment and card issuing infrastructure available to other startups, fintechs, and brands. Today, that infrastructure powers hundreds of millions of dollars in payments for consumers and some of the most innovative companies in the world.

What You’ll Do
The Risk team's goals are twofold: to protect the company, and to make it easy for our clients to protect themselves. As a founding member of Lithic's Risk team, you will help us shape the strategy and build the systems and processes from scratch to help us accomplish these goals. Specifically, you will:

• Devise new systems, processes, and strategies for managing risk in many forms, always with an eye for enabling scale and improving user experience
• Build relationships with our customer-facing teams (and occasionally our customers themselves) to best inform our approach to managing risk in a way that enables prudent growth
• Identify new approaches and data sources that could help us better understand various forms of risk, and partner with our engineering teams to implement them

Who You Are
You should have a track record of doing both high-impact strategic work as well as rolling up your sleeves to do whatever unglamorous but worthwhile task needs to be done. We encourage candidates of all backgrounds and experiences to apply, but we think that a successful candidate will have:

• 4+ years of experience in Risk, Fraud, Trust and Safety, or another domain that blends operational and analytical work and has a measurable impact on the company's success
• Comfort with ambiguity and working in an unstructured environment
• Experience pushing cross-functional projects forward
• Intermediate SQL skills and experience working with data, with an eye for detail
• Empathy toward the needs of others, with a track record of building relationships across a variety of levels and roles
• Self-awareness and humility: you're able to balance when to think from first principles, when to lean on your experience in approaching a problem, and when to turn to others for help
• A proactive and positive attitude with a can-do mentality
• The ability to prioritize tasks and take ownership with minimal guidance
• A desire to improve processes and make things more efficient

Bonus points for any of the following:

• Experience working with engineers
• Experience working at a startup
