Clinical Support:
- Prepares operatory for the guests and is an integral part of the guest experience flow.
- Prepares guest for dental treatment by welcoming, comforting and seating
- Provides instrumentation by sterilizing and delivering instruments to the treatment area; positioning instruments for dentists’ access; suctioning; passing instruments.
- Provides materials by selecting, mixing, and placing materials on instruments and in the guest’s mouth.
- Provides diagnostic information by exposing and developing radiographic studies; pouring, trimming, and polishing study casts.
- Maintains guest appearance and ability to masticate by fabricating temporary restorations; cleaning and polishing removable appliances.
- Helps dentists manage dental and medical emergencies by maintaining CPR certification, emergency drug and oxygen supply, and emergency telephone directory.
- Documents dental care services by charting in guest records.
- “Traffic control” of patient flow and assist the doctors in guiding them to ensure proper flow in the studio.
- Ensure that all lab cases are ready and pulled for the following day schedule.
- Assist in the efficient transition of new doctors and/or dental assistants to ensure better acclamation to the office.
- Ensure proper dental assistant coverage in the office on specialist days and/or to cover vacations or sick days.
Team Work:
- Ensure that the back office runs smoothly.
- Patient hand-offs should be professional and should ultimately create an excellent guest experience.
- The Lead Dental Assistant should lead by example and look to build efficiency in regular patient flow.
- Contributes to team effort by accomplishing related results as needed.
Supply Ordering:
- Ensures operation of dental equipment by completing preventive maintenance requirements; following manufacturer's instructions; troubleshooting malfunctions; calling for repairs; maintaining equipment inventories; evaluating new equipment and techniques.
- Responsible for the maintenance of emergency kits and first aid supplies in the office to ensure that they are stocked properly and up to date.
- Follow maintenance schedules for the autoclave on a weekly/monthly basis and schedule coverage accordingly to allow the time for maintenance.
- Identify, report and follow up as necessary on any maintenance issues in the office including dental equipment, hand pieces, hand pieces log.
Compliance:
- Lead assistant is to ensure that the clinical staff is following OSHA regulations and safety requirements. Additionally, they need to ensure that the clinical staff is compliant with HIPAA guidelines and take corrective action with the support of management if necessary.
- Maintains safe and clean working environment by complying with procedures, rules, and regulations.
- Protects guests and other team members by adhering to infection-control policies and protocols.
- Conserves dental resources by using equipment and supplies as needed to accomplish job results.
- Maintains professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops; reviewing professional publications; establishing personal networks; and participating in professional societies.
Requirements:
- Must meet the state requirements of a Dental Assistant for the market in which you are located.
- 1-3 Years Experience in a larger group practice (preferred)
- Excellent communication skills, both written & verbal
- Engaging personality with high EQ and ability to easily learn new ideas & concepts and apply them to the role of the Dental Assistant in the practice
